HP has manufactured ZBook Studio x360 G5 with aluminum which feels really strong. Its slightly gray color looks great. New simple yet elegant HP logo is crafted on the back of the lid. On the top border on the back side of the lid you will spot a line which indicates that there are magnets placed inside so that when you turn the lid to 360 degrees switching to the tablet mode, those magnets attach to other side making both surfaces a single unit. HP has also made a stylish edge but cutting off the bottom corners. HP logo appears below the display. “Mobile Workstation” appears in elegant writing on the hinge. There is nothing new about the hinge mechanism as it is a traditional one of HP. You can easily turn the lid up to 360 degrees with normal force. You will spot a speaker vent above the keyboard.
Fingerprint and Camera
The laptop also features a fingerprint reader below the right side of the keyboard. For added security, ZBook Studies comes with Intel vPro and IR camera. IR camera enables a user to sign in by Windows Hello through facial recognition. The webcam is at its usual place above the display. The webcam is fine for video calling but the image quality is not so good. HP also includes SureView panel to protect users’ privacy.
Size and Weight
The side bezels of the screen are thin but the top and bottom bezels are much thicker than side bezels. Still, the thick bezels do not harm the beauty of its display. As you might expect with its sturdy design manufactured with solid aluminum, ZBook Studio x360 G5 weighs 4.9 pounds with the dimensions of 14.2 x 9.7 x 0.8 inches. It is heavier than some of its competitors but it is certainly portable.
Ports and Slots
ZBook Studio x360 G5 has just enough ports to fulfill the needs of a user. You will find the power button on the left along with a sim card slot and 2 USB 3.0 ports. The left side also has a security lock slot. The right side has a charging port along with an SD card slot, an HDMI port, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, and a headphone jack.
ZBook Studio x360 is a very durable machine. As per the durability test results, it can withstand extreme temperatures, vibrations, and humidity. You don’t have to be worried even if you drop it from a height of 2.5 feet. You may find a little issue about the lid which flexes as if made of plastic when you push it with a very small force. It is a tiny detail but it may concern you. However, the bottom line is that you can definitely rely on this laptop.
You will fall in love with the mesmerizing display of ZBook Studio x360 G5. It features a 4K panel with the resolution of 3840 x 2160. The touchscreen is very responsive and smooth. You will feel no lag while using even the complex and heavy apps. 15.6-inch touchscreen is just great as HP claims it is. HP claims that ZBook Studio x360 has the brightest 4K UHD display which is true as per the brightness tests. As per the claims from HP, ZBook Studio’s display is 50% brighter than the Display of Dell XPS and 20% brighter than that of Apple MacBook Pro. You will absolutely enjoy this UHD anti-glare screen on this display or as HP calls it “HP DreamColor Display”. HP also promises a spellbinding experience on this display with one billion vibrant colors.
Touchpad, Keyboard, and Stylus
ZBook Studio x360 features a large touchpad with the dimensions of 4.5 x 2.8 inches. The touchpad is very neat and feels like a glass surface. It is very responsive as well and you will have good experience navigating on its smooth surface. There are no apparent buttons for left and right click but you will find that you can click the bottom sides which serve as physical buttons for left and right clicks. However, there is no need for left and right click buttons as touchpad supports Windows Precision pad touch commands.
The Backlit keyboard of HP ZBook Studio is very good. Key travel is 1.2 mm and keys are square-shaped with a smooth surface. The typing experience on this keyboard is just perfect. Even though it is a 15.6-inch laptop, there is no numeric pad. The deck is made of aluminum and comfortable enough to rest your palms on it.
The stylus for the touchscreen of ZBook Studio is called ZBook Pen. ZBook Pen does not come with the unit so to enjoy the stylus experience on this screen you will have to spend an extra $69. ZBook Pen is amazing with the 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity just like the Surface Pen from Microsoft. ZBook Pen has 3 physical buttons and you can customize them, as in assign the commands to them according to your choice. You will also experience tilt controls of ZBook Pen while using it in Studio mode. The overall experience with the ZBook Pen is perfect with great response and no lag.
Audio and Graphics
ZBook Studio x360 G5 features 4 speakers from Bang & Olufsen. The speakers are placed above the keyboard. The speakers are loud enough to enjoy music in your living room. There is no apparent scattering of sound on high volumes. You can also control the volume and other settings through dedicated Bang & Olufsen audio-control app.
This 2-in-1 laptop is equipped with NVidia Quadro P1000 graphics with 4GB VRAM. You certainly can enjoy gaming on such a powerful laptop. You are good to go with low-end and moderate-level games on this laptop. These graphics can easily handle your graphics related work.
Performance and Battery Life
This particular ZBook Studio x360 G5 model is packed with a powerful Intel Xeon E-2186M processor, 32GB RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage. You will find no issue with the performance of this laptop as it gives a smooth and even performance even with the multiple apps running in the background, dozens of open tabs in the browser, streaming HD videos on YouTube, and streaming music on Spotify. As per the benchmark scores, ZBook Studio x360 G5 gives much better performance than its competitors with the Xeon processor. The transfer speed of its SSD is admirable as it can transfer GBs of data at the transfer speed of 509 MBs per second.
The battery life of this 2-in-1 laptop is very impressive. You will be able to surf the internet over Wi-Fi at an average brightness of the display for more than 9 hours. It means that you can go through a whole day with a single charge.
HP ZBook Studio x360 G5 is a great workstation packed with a powerful processor and great battery. It is a much better workstation for creative product designers and artists. Its stunning display also increases its value. But all these amazing features come at a great price. ZBook Studio x360 G5 starts at $1,999 which is out of range for an average consumer. The price goes all the way up to $5,000 for the highest model with the most powerful processor, maximum RAM and Storage, and the amazing 4K display. It depends on your budget but if you can afford it, this is one of the best workstations in the market right now.
